What are people paying for 1st cut hay this year? I just got a 2nd load delivered and it cost almost $200 than the load I got in July. Nothing special about it.

I'm very lucky as I still pay 5.00 per bale but we have to pick it up. It's 45 minutes away and we can only fit 150 at a time on trailer.
One of my boarders is paying 8.50 per bale now

I just touched base with some local friends and it ranges from 7.50 - $10 a bale. It just seems awfully high!

My hay guy charged me 6.50 a bale for first cut off the field this summer. So I loaded up on that. But then he has to load it up into his barn for winter so he adds on another 1.00 for labor to get it up there, making it 7.50 a bale when I buy it throughout the winter. But I feel it is more than worth it. Good sized bales, always clean beautiful hay that I can depend on to be clean, never dusty and my horses love it. Have had it tested and it tests with very good nutrition so I am sticking with it. My horses are all happy and healthy and I don't want to mess with that, even though there may be cheaper hay out there. Oh, and I also pick it up myself, 80 bales at a time. I haven't heard him say if it was a rough year for hay but I am going to get more this Sunday and will ask him.

I paid 4.50 a bale back in early July. That was delivered. I always buy as soon as 1st cut comes out for the year. i know hay was going up this year most people paying around $5/6 a bale.

I get my hay from Southern Maine. We pay $10 per bale for 2nd cut, however, they weigh approx 50-60 lbs. Also, he doesn't deliver...we pick up with our flat bed.

flyhawk, I asked him yesterday and he doesn't have enough hay this year. Last year was totally different he was loaded. Also, he is in Hollis, NH. Is that too far for you? I can send it in the future if he gets a good crop, if you are interested with his location.
