Just curious, why are some helmets $80 and others $500????
Do the more expensive ones offer better protection? I thought all helmets are certified...
Just wondering 😁

Some are designed better than others, like Trauma void, some are designed better for look and comfort. I personally love my Kask Helmet and My OneK. I tried Trauma Void and didn't like it. IRH has a nice one. Disliked the Charles Owen I tried. Hate Troxel, the give me a headache.

I find Troxels very uncomfortable, but very affordable, so I always rode in one of those until recently. When I had enough other horse stuff that I wasn't spending as much money, I could justify a Charles Owen and it was like a warm gentle hug for my head. Totally different helmet experience. I think, though, that they all protect your head "enough." Some may be better at limiting different kinds of shaking-up vs. pure impact injuries, I think I heard. I have a smallish head so I can get away with a junior size, which are cheaper. Otherwise, you gotta wait for the sales.

For all helmet sales, I encourage people to ignore the price and really focus on the fit. A helmet should fit exactly - like Sharon said, it should be a "hug for your head!" The Troxel Spirit is awesome for me - it really depends on the shape of your head!!

Conversely, top hats got cheap when dressage rules changed. Market forces at work....

Saddle Seat riders still use top hats.

While this article deals with Canada and Sweden, it wouldnít be hard to imagine US helmuts would be much different. Itís side impact that few helmuts protect against. Interesting because price isnít related to protection.
